Hompe Has Banner Day as No. 11 Women's Lax Wins at Georgetown, 11-7

WASHINGTON, D.C. (2/28/15) - Sophomore Olivia Hompe scored a career-high five goals and added one assist to match her career-best six points as No. 11 Princeton defeated Georgetown, 11-7 on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Erin McMunn had two goals and two assists. With 77 career assists, she needs five assists to become Princeton's all-time assist leader, a record currently held by Crista Samaras '99. Senior Erin Slifer had a goal and two helpers, while junior Anya Gersoff added a goal and an assist. Sophomore Ellie DeGarmo made 10 saves as she and the Tigers improve to 3-0.
The Tigers dominated the first half taking a 7-1 lead. After Caroline Tarzian scored the opening goal it was all Orange & Black. Hompe had a first-half hat trick, while McMunn had all four of her points in the first 30 minutes. Freshman Haley Giraldi and sophomore Anna Doherty also scored. DeGarmo made four saves in the first half as Princeton outshot Georgetown 16-9. The Tigers dominated the draws, 7-2, not allowing the Hoyas the ball.
The Hoyas went on a 4-1 run in the first eight minutes of the second half to cut its deficit to three, 8-5.
Hompe added two more goals to push Princeton back up, 10-5 at 10:51.
Hannah Seibel and Tarzian each scored as the Hoyas crept back within three, 10-7 with 6:05 remaining.
Tarzian was carded with 2:04 remaining but a Princeton turnover gave the Hoyas the ball back with 1:55 left. The aggressive play of Amanda Leavell earned her a caused turnover and a ground ball and led to Gersoff's second tally of the game with 36 seconds remaining.
The Hoyas won the final draw control and Megan Marinelli tested DeGarmo one final time but she made the save with 17 seconds remaining.
Maddy Fisher made eight saves in the loss for Georgetown, as the Hoyas drop to 0-2 on the season.
Princeton held a 28-26 edge in shots and won 12 of the 20 draws. Georgetown won the ground ball battle 23-16 and both teams turned the ball over nine times.
The Tigers begin the Ivy League season next Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
