• With the win over Columbia, Mitch Henderson '98 stands at alongside John Thompson III '88 for seventh place on Princeton's all-time coaching wins list with 68 wins. Thompson was Henderson's assistant coach for Henderson's final three years as a player at Princeton. Two years after Henderson graduated, Thompson succeeded Bill Carmody as Princeton's head coach and remained there for four seasons. With his next win, while Henderson will stand alone in seventh place, he'll have a way to go to catch his former coach and bench-mate at Northwestern, Bill Carmody, who won 92 games at Princeton.
• Princeton has won two straight at Cornell. Princeton last won three in a row at Cornell from 2002-04.
• The Ivy race has a long way to go, but there's already plenty of intrigue. Yale, Harvard and Princeton are the only teams with one or fewer Ivy losses, and just one more team, Penn, has as few as two losses, standing at 2-2 in league play.
• Princeton started the season 1-5 and 3-8, but the team is 6-2 since that 3-8 start.
• Both opposing coaches this weekend have been in their posts one year longer than Mitch Henderson. Columbia's Kyle Smith has six more wins than Henderson, at 73, and Cornell's Bill Courtney has 47 wins.
• It sounds simple enough, but when the Tigers win, they've made shots, defended and gotten to the free throw line. Princeton has not done those things as well in losses. In wins, Princeton shoots .486 from the field and allows opponents .427, makes 10 3-pointers (.427) and allows 4.5 (.281), and averages 17 of 23 from the line while opponents average 10 of 15 from the free throw line. In losses, Princeton shoots .421 from the field but allows .452, makes eight 3-pointers and hits at a .353 clip while allowing seven but at a .468 clip, and averages 12 of 17 from the line while opponents average 20 of 27.
• The Tigers take 47 percent of their field goals from beyond the arc, but last night at Columbia, Princeton was able to hit nine 3s against a Columbia team that still leads the Ivy in 3-point FG percentage defense at .300, which now ranks 31st in the nation through Friday's games. Cornell figures to pose a similarly strong challenge, with the Big Red third in the Ivy and 88th in the nation at .320. Cornell's overall field goal percentage defense is the best in the Ivy at .380, good for 21st in the nation.
• Princeton achieved its first true road win of the season after suffering six such losses. It was the deepest Princeton went into a season without a true road win since the 2007-08 season, when all six of Princeton's wins came in Jadwin Gym.
• The Tigers have turned the ball over fewer times than their opponents in seven straight games after doing so only five times in the first 11 games. Perhaps not coincidentally, Princeton is 6-1 in the last six games.
• Princeton has made more 3-pointers than its opponent in 11 of 18 games this season. Princeton is 7-4 in those games but has won the last five. Princeton and Columbia both made nine 3s Friday night.
• The change in year has been a positive change for the Tigers during Mitch Henderson's tenure. In the pre-New Year portion of Henderson's four seasons, the Tigers have a record of 27-25 for a .519 winning percentage. From New Year's Day forward, the Tigers under Henderson are 41-17 with a .707 winning percentage.
• Princeton beat Cornell 91-51 in the teams' last meeting on March 7, 2014 in Ithaca, but just 47 of those 91 points are back for Princeton. Will Barrett '14 and T.J. Bray '14 had 21 points apiece. Cornell returns 21 of its 51, with Dwight Tarwater (12) and Nolan Cressler (16) having moved on.
• Princeton leads the Ivy in field goal percentage (.452), 3-point FG% (.390), 3s per game (9.2), turnover margin (+0.9/game) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1), and defensive rebounding percentage (.737).
• Princeton's probable starting lineup includes no seniors, but junior Hans Brase, sophomores Steven Cook, Spencer Weisz and Pete Miller, and freshman Amir Bell. Cornell, which has used the same starting five in all 21 games, starts seniors Devin Cherry, Galal Cancer and Shonn Miller and sophomore Robert Hatter and David Onuorah.
• Princeton is 10-5 when scoring 28 points by halftime and 0-5 when it does not. The Tigers are 7-2 when scoring at least 69 points and 2-8 when they do not. The Tigers are 9-3 when holding opponents below 67 points but 1-7 when foes reach 67.
• Princeton is 10-3 when holding opponents below 41 percent from 3-point range and 0-7 when opponents make at least 41 percent of their 3-point tries.
• The Tigers are 8-1 when getting at least 13 turnovers from opponents and 2-9 when opponents turn the ball over fewer than 13 times.
• Princeton has made at least 10 3-pointers in seven of the last 13 games after doing so in only one of the first seven games.
• Through Friday's games, Princeton ranked 11th in the nation in 3s per game at 9.2. The team ranked in the national top 100 in eight statistical categories, with its next-highest ranking at 29th in 3FG percentage (.390). Between them, Hans Brase, Pete Miller, Spencer Weisz and Steven Cook are included in the national rankings (approximately the national top 250 players in each category) 14 times. Hans Brase has the highest ranking, at 42rd in defensive rebounds per game (6.1), while Steven Cook is also in the top 100 with a 86th-best 1.8 steals per game.
• Princeton's top five scorers are non-seniors, including sophomore Spencer Weisz, junior Hans Brase, freshman Amir Bell and sophomores Steven Cook and Pete Miller. The last time the Tigers finished the season with no seniors among the top five in scoring was 2009-10, when sophomore Douglas Davis, junior Dan Mavraides, freshman Ian Hummer, junior Kareem Maddox and sophomore Patrick Saunders were in the top five.
• Senior Clay Wilson's start against Rowan marked the first time since the fourth game of the season (Ben Hazel) that a senior made a start. Seniors have accounted for just 16.6 percent of minutes and 14.9 percent of the points this season.
• Sophomore Spencer Weisz is leading the team in scoring at 12.5 ppg, 16 points in front of junior Hans Brase. The last sophomore (or younger) to end the season leading the team in scoring was in the 2009-10 season when Douglas Davis '12 averaged 12.7 ppg. Since: Kareem Maddox '11 in 2010-11, Ian Hummer '13 in 2011-12 and 2012-13, and T.J. Bray '14 in 2013-14.
• In 58 Ivy League seasons, Princeton has posted 52 winning Ivy seasons, four 7-7 finishes and just two losing records.

• Cornell has allowed as many as nine 3-pointers only three times, going 2-1 in those games. One of those games was last night against Penn, which made 10. Opponents are 5-1 when making at least eight 3s against the Big Red.
• Opponents are 9-0 when scoring at least 61 points against Cornell.
• Galal Cancer has scored in double figures in four straight games after not doing so in 10 straight games before that.
• Cornell is the top free throw shooting team in the Ivy at .731 and in field goal percentage defense at .380. Shonn Miller leads the Ivy in scoring at 16.4 ppg, rebounding at 8.0 rpg and defensive rebounds at 7.1 rpg.
• Cornell is in the top 100 in eight statistical categories through Friday's games, led by its 21st-best field goal percentage defense of .380. Shonn Miller's 7.1 defensive rebounds per game are 12th in the nation.

| Mitch Henderson '98 is in his fourth season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 68-42. Under Henderson, Princeton is 38-10 at home, 31-15 in the Ivy League, and 20-4 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 54-13 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first three campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Luehring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in seventh place on the Princeton all-time wins list, even with John Thompson III '88 at 68 wins, also in four seasons. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, current San Diego Padre Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). Prior to Princeton, Henderson coached at Northwestern for 11 seasons under his final head coach at Princeton, Bill Carmody, from 2000-11. |
