Fencing Teams Remain in Ivy Title Hunt After First Day

After the first day at the Ivy League Round-Robin fencing championships Sunday at Columbia, both Princeton teams remain in the hunt for Ivy titles but will need a strong Monday and some help.
Columbia leads the women's standings at 3-0 in its pursuit of being the first team other than Princeton to win the Ivy women's fencing title since 2009. The Lions beat Princeton 16-11 in their head-to-head matchup Sunday and Princeton stands as one of three one-loss teams along with Harvard and Penn. The Tigers face Penn, Brown and Harvard Monday.
The women's loss to Columbia ended a run of 32 straight victories at the Ivy League Round-Robins, a streak that began in 2009.
On the men's side, Princeton is 1-1 after a loss to Columbia and a win over Yale with the same schedule as the women Monday. Penn leads the men's standings at 2-0 ahead of Harvard, Columbia and Princeton, all with one loss each.
Princeton freshman foil Thomas Dudey finished Sunday's bouts 6-0, while junior épée Anna Van Brummen was 8-0 after the three women's bouts.
Monday's action will begin at 10 a.m.
