Princeton alumna Kelly Shon '14 tied for 11th in a field of 120 at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic, which wrapped Sunday.
The event was Shon's first as an LPGA pro after earning her tour card by completing three qualifying-school stages, the last of those in early December.
Shon carded a first-round 69 Thursday and then turned in three straight 71s at the Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Her final score of 10-under was just four shots off the pace set by 22-year-old fellow tour rookie Sei Young Kim of South Korea, who emerged from a three-way playoff to take the title.
While at Princeton, Shon played in three NCAA East Regionals, advancing to the NCAA Championship as a junior to become only the second Princeton player and Ivy Leaguer to make it to the NCAA finals. Shon was a four-time All-Ivy League honoree including three first-team honors and was twice named the Ivy League Player of the Year. She was the fifth Tiger to win the Ivy League individual title, doing so as a junior in 2013.
The LPGA Tour runs through November and includes one stop in New Jersey, at the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway, N.J. The Ivy League Championship was held there in 2012, and Shon, then a sophomore, finished seventh to earn second-team All-Ivy League honors.
