With midterm exams behind them and spring break now at hand, the Princeton softball team will focus on the field, headed inside the Beltway for games hosted by George Washington and Maryland at the Capital Invitational.
Princeton will face George Washington twice Saturday in an 11 a.m. doubleheader and then head to Maryland to face Lafayette and then the host Terrapins in a Sunday twinbill starting at 10 a.m.
The Tigers began their season at a tournament hosted by North Florida and followed that with a weekend split at a Central Florida-hosted tournament that included run-rule wins over Iowa and Florida A&M and one-run defeats to a ranked UCF team and to Long Island to put Princeton at 3-6 on the season.
Junior Skye Jerpbak and freshman Ashley LaGuardia were named Ivy Pitcher and Player of the Week last week for their performances at UCF, where Jerpbak hit .636 (7-11) on the weekend and LaGuardia threw 13 2/3 innings while appearing in all four games. LaGuardia also earned Ivy Rookie of the Week recognition.
Five Tigers with double-figure at-bats are hitting at or above .300 on the season, led by Jerpbak's .391, and while four pitchers have seen time in the circle, LaGuardia has accounted for 35 of Princeton's 55 innings with a 2-4 record and a 4.20 ERA to start her collegiate career.
