No. 11 Oklahoma State Defeats Women's Tennis
March 21, 2015 | Women's Tennis
Princeton's women's tennis team picked a tough opponent to end the pre-conference schedule as No. 11 Oklahoma State defeated the Tigers 6-1 Saturday afternoon in San Diego.
While the loss ended Princeton's four-match win streak and dropped the team to 6-7 on the season, Princeton has played 10 of its 13 matches this spring against ITA-ranked opponents and had won the last three such matches until Saturday.
Oklahoma State swept the doubles point and took four singles matches in straight sets. Lindsay Graff won the first set against the No. 13-ranked player in the nation, Viktoriya Lushkova, but Lushkova rallied to win the next two sets and take the match on court one. Amanda Muliawan came back from losing the first set to beat the 78th-ranked player in the nation, Kelsey Laurente, by winning the next two sets 6-4 and 6-1. Laurente is the highest-ranked player Muliawan has defeated as a Tiger, and it was the pair's second meeting with Laurente having defeated Muliawan a year ago when Laurente was ranked No. 48 in the nation and playing at the University of Miami.
With the pre-conference season now in the books, Princeton will head home and make the short trip to Penn to open Ivy League play next Saturday.
