Women's Tennis to Visit Penn in Saturday's Ivy Opener
March 25, 2015 | Women's Tennis
Following 13 non-league dual matches, the Ivy League season will begin Saturday for the Princeton women's tennis team when the Tigers head to Penn for a 1 p.m. match.
The Tigers have bounced back after a challenging start, winning six of their last eight matches including three wins over ITA-ranked teams in No. 60 Memphis, No. 31 Long Beach State and No. 67 San Diego State, all on the road. That helped Princeton move back into the ITA top-75 rankings, checking in this week at No. 58.
The Quakers are 7-4 entering Saturday's match, coming off back-to-back wins over UNLV and Georgetown after losses to three opponents ranked between 33rd and 54th by the ITA in Maryland, Saint Mary's and Georgetown. Princeton and Penn had just one common non-conference opponent in Saint Mary's, which defeated Princeton 4-3 on Jan. 31 and defeated Penn 5-2 on March 8.
Princeton has won six in a row over Penn with the Quakers' last win coming in 2008 at Princeton, 5-2. Penn's last win over Princeton on the Quakers' home courts came the year before, 5-2 in 2007.
After the Penn match, Princeton will host Brown and Yale April 3 and 4. Half the Ivy is ranked by the ITA on the latest list released March 24, with Dartmouth at No. 29, Harvard at No. 48, Princeton at No. 58 and Columbia at No. 60.
