Gamble, Steffensen Earn ECAC Weekly Tennis Honors

After a successful spring trip to California for each's team, Princeton tennis freshmen Luke Gamble and Katrine Steffensen were named Corvias ECAC Division I Metro/Upstate Rookies of the Week.
Gamble and the Princeton men went 2-1 against ranked teams on the trip, defeating No. 39 Indiana and No. 22 Harvard around a loss to No. 30 San Diego at a San Diego-hosted tournament. The wins raised Princeton four spots in this week's ITA rankings to No. 28.
Gamble played just one singles match on the trip, but it was a big one. Playing in the sixth spot, his match was the clincher in a 4-3 win against Harvard, and Gamble pulled it out in three sets. He was also 2-1 at second doubles with Diego Vives, winning matches against Indiana and Harvard while losing to San Diego.
Steffensen and the Princeton women were also 2-1 on the week, getting a 6-1 win over No. 31 Long Beach State and a 4-3 win over No. 67 San Diego State before taking a 6-1 loss to No. 11 Oklahoma State. The wins helped Princeton climb back onto the ITA rankings list, where the Tigers stand at No. 58.
Steffensen was 2-1 in singles on the week, all at fourth. She rallied for three-set wins agianst Long Beach State and SDSU, the latter coming when her opponent had to retire due to injury with the score tied at 5-5 in the final frame, clinching the match for Princeton. In doubles, Steffensen was 2-1 with Emily Hahn on court three, with wins against Long Beach State and SDSU and a loss to Oklahoma State.
Both Princeton teams will face Penn Saturday at 1 p.m., the women in Philadelphia and the men at home.
