Men's Tennis to Open Ivy Play Saturday With Penn
March 26, 2015 | Men's Tennis
Judging by the ITA rankings, the Princeton men's tennis team is about to begin a highly challenging Ivy League season Saturday when the Penn Quakers come to town for a 1 p.m. match.
Due to the weather, matches will be held indoors at Jadwin Gym and will be video streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network.
Princeton is one of seven Ivy League teams ranked in the ITA top 75. Columbia, at No. 26, just edges out No. 28 Princeton among Ivies on the latest list released March 24, with No. 33 Harvard, No. 46 Cornell, No. 57 Penn, No. 60 Dartmouth and No. 67 Brown rounding out the ranked Ivies.
The Tigers stand at 15-4 entering Ivy play, the team's best record through 19 matches since the team was 16-3 in 1994.
Princeton also received a bump for its ranked doubles team, with sophomore Tom Colautti and senior Zack McCourt checking in at No. 34 in the nation after ranking 56th on the last list released two weeks before.
Princeton lost 4-1 in last year's Ivy-opening meeting in Philadelphia, snapping a six-match winning streak for the Tigers over the Quakers. Penn last beat Princeton on the road in 2007.
Penn enters the weekend at 14-3 on the season. The teams have had three common opponents so far this season in Penn State, William & Mary and Furman, which Penn swept in a row Feb. 1-7. Princeton lost 4-3 to Penn State on Feb. 28 after defeating William & Mary and Furman at home Feb. 6-7.
