The Tigers needed a rally in the opener and just needed to score in the nightcap, and Princeton did both in securing a four-game sweep of Columbia Sunday, 3-2 and 2-0.

In the opener, Columbia led 2-0 after Meredith Brown, starting on her senior day, battled through three-plus innings before giving way to Ashley LaGuardia. The rookie in relief only allowed two Columbia batters to reach the rest of the way, both on seventh-inning errors, while Princeton began its comeback.

Princeton had left runners on third base in the first and third innings in game one, but a leadoff double from Sarah McGowan in the fifth came home on a Rachel Rendina single to pull Princeton within 2-1. Princeton started the sixth with back-to-back singles, the second of which turned into three bases when it was misplayed in the outfield. That brought home one run, and a sacrifice fly brought home the go-ahead score to make it 3-2 for Princeton.

Defensive miscues nearly gave the lead back to Columbia with two seventh-inning errors, but LaGuardia stranded those on the corners to preserve the win.

In game two, Shanna Christian pitched her second complete-game shutout in as many days, stranding seven Columbia batters, all at either first or second base. Princeton had its share of missed opportunities as well, leaving two runners in scoring position in each of the first two innings against Columbia starter Tessa Kroll. That changed in the fourth, when Princeton got three singles in the space of four batters to chase Kroll from the game, and a Rendina sacrifice fly gave Princeton a 2-0 lead that Christian helped make stand.


	<< Rachel Rendina went 2 for 4 with an RBI in game one, helping Princeton to pull within 2-1 in the eventual 3-2 win. Shanna Christian >> had a complete-game shutout for the second straight day, scattering six hits without a walk and striking out seven.

Emily Viggers' sacrifice fly put Princeton ahead 3-2 in the sixth inning in game one, and Rachel Rendina's sac fly in the fourth inning of game two gave Princeton another run in a 2-0 win.

• Princeton (6-4 Ivy) and Penn (7-5 Ivy) are tied atop the Ivy South after Princeton swept Sunday and Penn split. Columbia (5-7) is two games back and Cornell (3-9) is four back. All the Ivy South teams except Princeton have eight league games left, and Princeton has two games in hand thanks to a Yale doubleheader that will be made up April 22.

• Princeton swept a four-game series from one of its divisional opponents for the first time since 2009. All three four-game sweeps since the Ivy schedule format changes for the 2007 season have come against Columbia, with the other two in 2008 and 2009.

• Junior Shanna Christian hasn't allowed an earned run in 19 1/3 straight innings against Ivy League opponents and now has three complete-game shutouts against Ivy foes this season.

• Freshman Ashley LaGuardia bounced back from giving up three runs on five hits in two innings of work Saturday to throwing 3 1/3 hitless innings Sunday.

• Senior Rachel Rendina had a hit in all four games of the doubleheader, raising her average from .253 to .275. She was 6 of 14 (.429) with three RBIs, a double and a triple on the weekend.

• Sophomore Marissa Reynolds also had a hit in every game of the weekend, going 7 of 11 (.636) for the series. All of her five RBIs on the weekend, including a grand slam and a triple, came in Saturday's second game.


Princeton will host Lehigh Wednesday in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Class of 1895 Field. The Mountain Hawks have an impressive record at 26-6 overall and 10-1 in the Patriot League with its only league loss coming 4-3 to Holy Cross in 12 innings Saturday.
