Second-Ranked Tigers Follow Radcliffe Win With Class of 2006 Cup Victory
April 25, 2015 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
The second-ranked Princeton women's lightweight rowing team couldn't have asked for a much better final tune-up before the 2015 Eastern Sprints next weekend. Following its Class of 1999 Cup win over reigning national champion Radcliffe last weekend, Princeton completed its trophy sweep by retaining the Class of 2006 Cup over Georgetown.
Princeton moved to 13-0 in the all-time series and won its second dual race of the season in 6:23, topping Georgetown by more than 19 seconds. The Tigers nearly had two boats finish ahead of the Hoyas, but the Tiger 2V finish .35 of a second behind the Georgetown 1V.
The Hoyas did claim a home win in the fours; their time of 7:09 defeated the Princeton A boat by 27 seconds and the Princeton B boat by 35 seconds.
Now all eyes will turn to Cooper River next Sunday, May 3, for the 2015 Eastern Sprints. Radcliffe will come in as the defending champion, while Princeton will be looking for its first Sprints crown since 2011. Both boats own one narrow win over the other during April, though neither came on Cooper River, site of next weekend's Championships.
