Granville Earns Ivy Coach of the Year, Three Tigers Named All-Ivy
April 29, 2015 | Women's Tennis
Princeton women's tennis coach Laura Granville has been named the Ivy League Coach of the Year and Lindsay Graff, Alanna Wolff and Amanda Muliawan have been named to All-Ivy League teams, the Ivy League office announced Wednesday.
Granville is the inaugural winner of the Ivy League Coach of the Year award after leading the team to back-to-back Ivy League titles and becoming the first coach in program history to lead Princeton to NCAA tournaments in consecutive years.
Princeton bounced back from starting the spring season 0-5, all against ITA-ranked teams, beginning the season ranked No. 35 in the nation before dropping out of the top 75 in late February. The Tigers turned it around, getting back into the rankings after defeating No. 31 Long Beach State and No. 67 San Diego State on the spring trip, riding that momentum to a 5-0 Ivy League start and a ranking as high as No. 40. Princeton wrapped up the Ivy's automatic bid ot the NCAA tournament with a win over Cornell on April 19 and will face South Carolina when the tournament opens May 9 in Virginia.
Graff, a senior, was a unanimous choice for first-team All-Ivy League in singles as well as doubles, where she teamed with Wolff, a sophomore. In singles play, Graff was ranked No. 67 in the nation in the fall, going 5-1. She fell out of the rankings until earlier this month, when she was at No. 119 when she split her matches atop Princeton's singles ladder in a crucial Dartmouth-Harvard road sweep as part of a 5-2 record in league play. Graff was 13-7 on the dual-match season, all on court one.
Graff and Wolff began teaming in February and went 8-5 the rest of the way, all on court one, while going 4-2 in the Ivies. The pair played 10 matches together a year ago during Wolff's freshman season and earned first-team All-Ivy honors.
Graff's pair of All-Ivy designations completes a career in which she has been named All-Ivy League in both singles and doubles in all four years. It's the second straight year she has earned first-team honors in both, last year bringing an Ivy League Player of the Year award along with the All-Ivy honors.
Muliawan, a junior, earned second-team All-Ivy honors in singles, the first time she has been named all-league. Muliawan was 12-7 in dual matches and 6-1 in the Ivy, all on court two. Including a win against No. 11 Oklahoma State to close out the spring trip, Muliawan won seven of her last eight matches, including providing the clinching point in the Ivy-season ending match against Cornell.
Granville, Graff, Wolff and Muliawan will head to Virginia to take on South Carolina in the first round of the NCAA tournament on May 9.
