Dartmouth blanked the Princeton softball team over 12 innings Friday as the Big Green stayed atop the Ivy North with 5-0 and 8-0 wins in Hanover. Princeton stayed even with the Big Green over the first three innings in the opener, but Dartmouth broke through for two runs on a Karen Chaw home run in the fourth before adding three runs on five hits in the fifth for the 5-0 final. Dartmouth didn't wait to strike in game two, getting three runs on five hits in the opening frame before pushing it into run-rule territory in the fourth with four more runs in the 8-0 final. Princeton had four hits apiece in the two games, putting two runners in scoring position in the fifth inning of game one when the Tigers trailed just 2-0 and getting Rachel Rendina as far as second base in the first and third innings of game two before those innings stalled. Dartmouth stayed two games in front of Harvard and Brown with six games down and 14 to go, while Princeton (2-2) stayed even with Penn (3-3) at .500 after Brown picked up a doubleheader sweep of the Quakers Friday in Providence. |
| Rachel Rendina was the only Tiger to get a hit in both games, picking up a third-inning single in game one and base hits in the first and third innings of game two to go 3 for 6 on the day. | ![]() |
| With the strong pitching of Dartmouth's Kristen Rumley, Morgan McCalmon and Ashley Sissel, early runs were all Dartmouth needed. The Big Green broke the scoreless tie in game one with Karen Chaw's two-run home run in the fourth, and Rumley had a two-run single in the first inning of game two to put Dartmouth up 3-0 in the nightcap. |
|
• Dartmouth picked up the sweep over Princeton for the second straight year but for the first time in Hanover since 2009. |
| Princeton will head to Harvard for a 2 p.m. twinbill Saturday. |
