Princeton Falls To Efficient Stony Brook Despite Five From Orban
April 04, 2015 | Men's Lacrosse
Final Stats
The crowd of 1,246 at Stony Brook's LaValle Stadium Saturday afternoon was more than the total number of fans that had seen every other Princeton-Stony Brook game ever played before this one. Okay, so that was only two games, back in the early 1990s, and they drew only 1,168 between them.
For the home fans in the group, it was nothing that they haven't seen all season from their 20th-ranked Seawolves, who used their incredibly efficient offense to churn out a 13-10 win over Princeton and improve to 9-2 on the season. The Tigers, ranked 12th, fell to 6-3 with their second-straight defeat.
It was Stony Brook's first win over Princeton after the Tigers won both games, back in 1992 and 1993.
Stony Brook came into the game with the No. 1 team shooting percentage in Division I at .414 and did nothing in this one to hurt that number. In fact, the Seawolves improved on it, shooting 13 for 30, or .433.
Princeton led 4-1 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 7-6 at the intermission and 8-6 early in the third. Kip Orban and Mike MacDonald tied it, but the Seawolves then scored five of the next seven the rest of the way.
Princeton gets back on the field quickly, playing Tuesday night at Lehigh in a 7:30 face-off. After that, it's three straight Ivy League games to end the regular season, beginning at Dartmouth Saturday.
