May 11, 2015 | Men's Tennis
At Princeton, Matija Pecotic earned three Ivy League Player of the Year awards, the only player in league history to earn three such honors in men's tennis. He ended his career by advancing to the Round of 32 at the NCAA singles championship, becoming the first Tiger since 1996 to win a postseason match.
Now, Pecotic is winning internationally while playing on the ITF Futures tour and his ATP world ranking has been climbing steaily. On Oct. 21, 2013, Pecotic was ranked 1,897th in the world, and less than two years later, he's climbed to 419th as of May 11. He entered the top 1,000 in April 2014.
In the past year, Pecotic has played in tournaments in Croatia, Serbia, Great Britain, Turkey, Egypt, the Republic of Georgia, and Nigeria, as well as a stop in the U.S. in Florida back in January. His greatest success has come over the last two weekends in Nigeria, where he won two Futures tournament singles titles over the last two weekends and made two doubles finals, winning one, while pairing with Washington alum Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan. Pecotic also won a doubles title at a Futures event in Egypt in February, pairing with Mississippi State alum Ivan Bjelica.
On his pro career overall, Pecotic has gone 48-25 in main-draw singles events and 20-11 in doubles, going 17-8 and 14-6 this year.
