Four Tigers Earn All-Ivy Softball Honors
May 12, 2015 | Softball
Princeton has had four players earn 2015 All-Ivy League softball honors, the league office announced Tuesday.
The recognitions go to three seniors and a junior, following a winning Ivy League campaign that saw Princeton in contention for the Ivy South title into the final day of the season.
Junior pitcher Shanna Christian and senior outfielder Rachel Rendina were named second-team All-Ivy. It's Christian's second All-Ivy honor, along with an honorable mention last year, and Rendina's first.
Rendina held down the centerfield position as the only Tiger to play in all 42 games, starting every one of them. She finished with a .277 average and a team-high 41 hits and two triples. Her 16 RBI and 48 total bases were second on the team. Christian had a team-best 2.64 ERA and 71 strikeouts this season while throwing 85 innings, second-most on the team. Four times during the Ivy League season, Christian threw complete-game shutouts, and her final appearance at '95 Field, against Yale, came within one out of Princeton's first seven-inning no-hitter in 10 years.
Seniors Alyssa Schmidt and Cara Worden earned honorable mention all-league. Schmidt earned a league honor for the second time, two years after being named second-team All-Ivy, and the honor is Worden's first.
Third-baseman Schmidt's .315 batting average led the team, as did her four home runs, and her 35 hits and eight doubles were second on the team. Schmidt ended her Tiger career on an eight-game hitting streak, hitting .379 over those last eight games. Worden's .280 batting average was third on the team, and she had her 23 hits and 15 RBI came while playing 31 games and making 27 starts, mostly at first base.
