Tennis Teams' Season-Ending Rankings Among Highest in Program History
May 26, 2015 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its final team rankings Tuesday, and Princeton's place on the final men's and women's lists put the 2015 Tigers among the best in either program's history.
The men ended the season ranked 35th, the team's highest season-ending ranking since 1980, when it was ninth in the nation. The team advanced to the NCAA team tournament this season for the first time since 1998, earning an at-large berth after its 19 wins, including 10 over ranked opponents, were the second-most in program history to the 20 won in 1995.
The women are 42nd to end the season after making back-to-back NCAA team tournament appearances for the second time in program history. It was Princeton's sixth top-50 season-ending ranking and fifth in the last seven years. Along with the No. 36 ranking with which the team ended last season, it was the first time in program history that Princeton has ended back-to-back seasons ranked 42nd or higher.
The ITA released its final individual rankings June 3. Seniors Zack McCourt and Lindsay Graff ended their careers ranked 66th and 105th in singles, while McCourt and sophomore Tom Colautti were ranked 49th. It's the second time and second straight year that McCourt and Graff have ended the season ranked, with McCourt finishing his junior year 110th and Graff 94th at the end of her junior campaign.
McCourt's ranking is the highest season-ending standing for a Princeton player in two years, since Matija Pecotic '13 was ranked 19th two years ago. Colautti's and McCourt's 49th ranking is the highest season-ending doubles standing for a Princeton men's pair since 1992, when Greg Hartch '92 and David Murphy '96 ended that season ranked 34th.
