Men's Tennis Set to Open Friday at Penn Tournament
September 10, 2015 | Men's Tennis
Eight Tigers will represent the Princeton men's tennis team at the Penn Invitational Friday through Sunday in Philadelphia.
The tournament is the first of the fall for Princeton, which will compete nearly every weekend for the next two months before taking a two-month respite ahead of the spring dual-match season.
Play will begin at 9 a.m. each day. Princeton's players will start Friday facing those from St. John's before meeting players from Old Dominion at 2 p.m. Saturday, the Tiger contingent will face players from Penn State in the morning and William and Mary in the afternoon. Sunday, Princeton's players will wrap the weekend against those from VCU.
Jonathan Yablon, Alex Day, Mohamed El Tonbari, Luke Gamble, Florin Radu, Ben Tso, Diego Vives and Jimmy Wasserman will make up Princeton's eight.
The tournament will be Princeton's first event since the Tigers ended a 17-year drought at the NCAA team tournament with a 4-1 defeat against No. 25 Minnesota in the NCAA first round at Virginia. Princeton's No. 35 season-ending ranking was the program's best season-ending rank since 1980.
