PRINCETON, N.J. (9/9/15) - The Princeton men's soccer team travels to the Sunshine State to face two teams this week. The Tigers will take on FGCU on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
The last time the teams met, was the first time, in 2013. FGCU came to Roberts Stadium for an ESPNU game that resulted in a 1-0 overtime win for the Eagles.
Princeton is coming off of a 2-1 win over St. John's on Friday night. The Tigers trailed 1-0 at halftime before scoring twice in the second-half rally. Senior Thomas Sanner scored the game winner in the 87th minute off a Nico Hurtado corner kick. Sophomore Nick Badalamenti scored his first career goal to put Princeton on the board, with junior Mark Romanowski and freshman Jeremy Colvin assisting. Ben Hummel earned the win making two saves. The Tigers look to extend the nation's longest unbeaten streak as it stands at 9-0-1 dating back to Oct. 7, 2014.
FGCU is 0-1-1 on the season after a scoreless tie with No. 3 Georgetown and a 1-0 loss to No. 20 Wake Forest. Thursday's game is technically the fourth game of the season for the Eagles, as they played 63 minutes against UCF and were leading 2-0 before the second lightning delay resulted in a "no contest." FGCU is coming off of an 8-7-5 season and an NCAA tournament berth. As the champion of the Atlantic Sun, the Eagles dropped a 1-0 game to Coastal Carolina in the first round of the NCAAs. FGCU returns eight starters from that team including its keeper Nathan Ingram. Ingram has a 0.45 goals against average and an .889 save percentage, with one goal allowed on nine shots this season. FGCU lost its top four scorers from last year, which made up 61 percent of the point production. Thus far Dennis Zapata has led the team in shots with three, as the Eagles look for their first goal of the season.
