PRINCETON, N.J. (9/17/15) - The Princeton men's soccer hosts Boston University in the 2015 home opener this Saturday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.
The teams have met just one time before, last year, which resulted in a 2-2 tie. The Terriers took a 2-0 lead in the first 36 minutes with two goals from Dominique Badji. Senior Thomas Sanner cut the Tigers deficit to one just minutes before halftime finishing off a Josh Miller shot. Senior Brendan McSherry tallied the equalizer in the 66th minute. Shots were nearly even 15-14 with each goalkeeper making two saves.
BU is off to a 3-1 start with all four games being decided by one goal. The team defeated Fordham, Siena and UMass and lost to Boston College. Anthony Viteri and Felix De Bona each have three goals and one assist apiece to lead the Terriers offense. T.J. Butzke has a goal and one assist. The trio is responsible for all game winners and all team goals. In net, Matt Gilbert has played every minute and has a 1.24 goals against average and a .762 save percentage, making 16 saves on 21 shots.
Princeton is 1-2 after dropping a pair of games in Florida last week. The Tigers opened the season with a 2-1 over St. John's. Like BU, all three games have been decided by just one goal. Sanner leads the team in scoring with five points on two goals and one assist. Senior Nico Hurtado and sophomore Nicholas Badalamenti have a goal and an assist each, while Miller has one goal. Senior Ben Hummel is 1-2 in goal with a 2.59 GAA and a .538 save percentage.
