It took the first golden goal for Princeton at Roberts Stadium in six years to see the first win over a ranked team on that spot in 11 years, but freshman Mimi Asom provided it less than two minutes into overtime to beat 23rd-ranked William & Mary 2-1 Sunday afternoon. Princeton had played the Tribe even over the first half and much of the second, getting a goal soon after the break when Vanessa Gregoire had a give-and-go with Tyler Lussi, who fired on for the game's first score. But Wiliam & Mary responded with pressure late in the half, finally paying off for the visitors from Virginia when Haley Kent corralled a loose ball in the box after a corner kick and powered it in for the game-tying goal with less than 20 minutes in regulation. Asom's goal came soon after a corner kick for Princeton, and while the Tribe couldn't clear the ball, it bounced off three Tiger heads and into the box for Asom, who rocketed it in for the winner. |
| Game Notes |
|
• This was Princeton's first win over an NSCAA-ranked team since defeating No. 21 West Virginia 2-1 in the opening round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. It's Princeton's first win at home over a ranked team since defeating No. 15 Washington in the 2004 NCAA quarterfinals. • Mimi Asom's goal was her fourth of the year. It was the first OT winner for the Tigers since Hoy had one at La Salle in 2012, and it was the first at Roberts Stadium since 2009, when Alex Valerio '11 had one against Cornell. |
