Men's Water Polo to Open CWPA Play Against Johns Hopkins, George Washington

PRINCETON, N.J. – The 11th-ranked Princeton University men's water polo team will open Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division play this weekend against Johns Hopkins and George Washington.
The Tigers tussle with the Blue Jays is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26. Princeton closes out the weekend against George Washington on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 12 p.m.
THE WEEK THAT WAS
• Princeton posted a 3-2 record during its annual West Coast swing.
• The Tigers opened the week with a 12-7 victory over Santa Clara.
• Suffering a 14-6 loss to No. 8 UC-Irvine in its Kap 7 NorCal Invitational opener, Princeton earned a 14-6 decision of its own against Redlands.
• Defeating No. 13 UCSD, 12-9, the Tigers closed out the week with a 10-7 loss to No. 10 UC-Davis in the tournament's ninth-place game.
• Boasting a 7-3 overall record, Princeton's three losses have all come to opponents ranked in the CWPA varsity top-20 poll (No. 5 Pacific, No. 8 UC-Irvine, No. 10 UC-Davis).
• Despite suffering a pair of losses at the NorCal Invitational, the Tigers moved up one spot in the CWPA top-20 to No. 11. Princeton opened the year tied for No. 11 in the CWPA preseason poll.
WEEKLY HONORS
• Ryan Wilson was named the CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week after turning in several stellar performances on the team's West Coast trip.
• In five games last week, Wilson collected nine goals, 12 steals, five assists, and six drawn ejections.
• Posting a hat-trick and nabbing three steals against Santa Clara, he had a goal and an assist against UC-Irvine.
• Recording two goals, an assist and a steal vs. Redlands, he had three goals on five shots with two assists and five steals against UC-San Diego. Wilson closed out the week with three steals vs. UC-Davis.
• Named to the CWPA Southern Player of the Week honor roll, Jordan Colina racked up 10 goals, three assists, 10 steals, and seven drawn ejections while going 9-2 on sprints.
• Against Santa Clara, Colina matched a season high with four goals while also picking up three steals.
• Netting a goal and dishing out three assists against Redlands, Colina had three goals and four steals in the NorCal Invitational ninth-place game against UC-Davis.
SHARING THE BURDEN
• All 13 of the Tigers' field players have recorded a goal and an assist this season.
• Thomas Nelson leads the Tigers in scoring with 23 goals, while Jordan Colina and Michael Swart rank second (19) and third (18), respectively. Ryan Wilson has 15 goals in nine games, while Jovan Jeremic and Eric Bowen each have 11 scores.
• Jamie Kuprenas has dished out a team-high 15 assists, while Wilson and Jeremic each have 11 helpers. Michael Swart has collected 10 assists.
• Defensively, Colina and Wilson each have a team-high 15 steals, while Thomas Nelson has 13. Bret Hinrichs has nabbed 10 steals, while Bradley Wachtell leads the squad in blocks with eight.
• Vojislav Mitrovic has seen the majority of the time in net for the Tigers, posting a 6-3 record with a 0.576 save percentage.
YOUTH MOVEMENT
• Princeton's freshmen have combined for 39 goals, 24 assists, and 29 steals.
• Michael Swart ranks third on the team in goals (18) and assists (10).
• Ryan Wilson has netted 15 goals and sits tied for second in assists (11) and tied for the team lead in steals (15).
• Matt Payne has six goals, five steals and three assists in four appearances.

SERIES HISTORIES
• Princeton is 39-5 all-time against Johns Hopkins with a 15-0 mark on neutral sites.
• The Tigers are 35-1 against George Washington with an 11-0 record on the road.
• Princeton went 3-1 against Johns Hopkins last season. Earning a 10-8 decision at the Princeton Invitational on Sept. 7 before falling to the Blue Jays on Sept. 10 in Baltimore, Md., 10-9. Defeating Johns Hopkins in the Southern Championship, 8-6, Princeton earned a decisive 18-5 decision in the opening round of the CWPA Championship.

• Ranked 17th in the latest CWPA varsity top-20 poll and No. 1 in the Division III poll, Johns Hopkins carries a 6-1 overall record into the weekend.
• Suffering a 15-7 setback against Brown on Sept. 12, the Blue Jays have rattled off three-straight victories over Washington & Jefferson (W, 17-3), George Washington (W, 16-8), and Mercyhurst (W, 20-9).
• Giorgio Cico has garnered a pair of CWPA Southern Rookie of the Week accolades, most recently on Sept. 17 after helping JHU to a 3-1 showing at the Bucknell Invitational with 13 goals, 10 assists and 10 steals.
• Cico currently leads the team with 35 points on 19 goals and 16 assists.
• Langdon Froomer has 11 goals and 17 assists on the season, while Matt Fraser has 22 points (14G, 8 A). Blake Range has amassed 20 points on 12 goals and eight helpers.
SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
• Going 1-3 at Bucknell's Bison Invitational on Sept. 12-13, George Washington carries a 2-6 record into the weekend.
• Sophomore Pierce Deamer leads the team with 34 points on 21 goals and 13 assists.
• Freshman James McLean has 17 points on 15 goals and a pair of helpers, while Jack Kerwin (6G, 8A) and Noah McKinnie Braun (5G, 5A) have 14 and 10 points, respectively.
