Women's Tennis Set to Begin Dual-Match Season Friday in Jadwin
January 21, 2016 | Women's Tennis
The dual-match season is set to begin Friday for the Princeton women's tennis team with Delaware coming to Jadwin Gym at 11 a.m.
Princeton originally had an opening doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, but the weather forecast forced pushing the Delaware match to Friday. The originally scheduled match against Georgetown has been canceled.
Live streaming video of Friday's match vs. the Blue Hens is available on the Ivy League Digital Network.
The Tigers are coming off their second straight Ivy League championship and NCAA tournament appearance and are aiming to become the fourth Ivy program to make the NCAAs in at least three straight years. Harvard did so from 1984-88, 1996-99 and 2003-06, Penn from 2001-03 and Yale from 2011-13.
While this weekend's two regional rivals are unranked in the ITA's top-75 list, Princeton checks in at No. 43, one of five ranked Ivy teams in a list that includes No. 32 Dartmouth, No. 55 Brown, No. 56 Columbia and No. 68 Yale.
Though the Tigers graduated Lindsay Graff, a four-time All-Ivy Leaguer, three-time first-teamer and 2014 Ivy League Player of the Year, and Katie Goepel from the singles lineup, Princeton returns senior Amanda Muliawan, juniors Alanna Wolff and Dorothy Tang and sophomore Katrine Steffensen from the Tigers' starting six. Steffensen earned a No. 87 national ranking from the ITA on the latest list, released Jan. 5. Muliawan, Steffensen, Tang, Wolff and senior Emily Hahn are back from the doubles lineup. A trio of rookies, including Nicole Kalhorn, Amber Park and Catalina Vives, join the returners.
After the opening contest, Princeton will head to Arizona for three matches between Jan. 26 and 29, at Grand Canyon, Arizona State and Arizona. Both of the Pac-12 opponents are ranked by the ITA, Arizona State at No. 27 and Arizona at No. 63.
