Women's Tennis Sweeps Grand Canyon to Start Arizona Trip
January 26, 2016 | Women's Tennis
For the second time in as many matches on the new dual-match season, the Princeton women's tennis team posted a sweep, this time on the road.
Tuesday's 7-0 win at Grand Canyon in Phoenix came four days after the Tigers, ranked 43rd in the nation by the ITA, swept Delaware 7-0. The GCU match is the first of three in Arizona for the Tigers, who will stay in the Valley of the Sun to take on No. 27 Arizona State Thursday before heading south to Tucson to face No. 63 Arizona Friday. A new ITA team ranking will be out Wednesday.
Grand Canyon tied up doubles play with a 6-3 win on court one after Princeton's Emily Hahn and Caroline Joyce won 6-2 at third singles, but Nicole Kalhorn and Katrine Steffensen completed the point with a 6-2 win at second.
Once singles play began, wins from Kalhorn, Steffensen and Sivan Krems were enough to put Princeton over the top before Alanna Wolff, Joyce and Muliawan finished the sweep.
Princeton's match at Arizona State, in what will be the teams' first meeting since the Tigers' 4-3 win over the Sun Devils in the first round of the 2014 NCAA tournament, will start at 3:30 ET Thursday.
