Tiger Trio Headed for Tulsa, ITA All-America Tournament
October 02, 2016 | Men's Tennis
Qualifying Singles Draw | Main Doubles Draw (to come late Tues/Wed)
Alex Day, Luke Gamble and Diego Vives are headed to Tulsa for the ITA All-America Championships to compete with the top players in college tennis.
Day and Gamble, who hold a No. 21 national ranking on the ITA's preseason list, are in the main-draw doubles competition, which begins Thursday. Day, Gamble and Vives are in the qualifying singles competition, which begins Monday.
In the qualifying singles draw, Day will open Monday at 8 a.m. CT/9 a.m. ET against USC's Rob Bellamy, who came through the prequalifying draw. The winner there will have to win two more matches Tuesday from a section of the draw in which the highest seed belongs to Alec Adamson of UC Davis, the draw's 10th overall seed. Gamble will also open at 8 a.m. local time against George Washington's Julius Tverjonas, and the highest-seeded player in Gamble's section of the draw is Memphis' Ryan Peniston, the draw's fourth overall seed. Vives will start at 10 a.m. local time against another prequalifying winner, Baylor's Jimmy Bendeck, with Oklahoma's Spencer Papa, the draw's overall second seed, the highest-seeded player in that section of the bracket.
It's the first trip to the ITA All-America event for any of the Tiger trio. The last Princeton player to compete in the event was Zack McCourt '15, who competed in the qualifying singles draw as a senior.
