PRINCETON, N.J. (10/26/16) - Princeton will make its annual trip to the North Country for a visit to St. Lawrence and Clarkson Friday and Saturday as the Tigers come off their opening weekend of action.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton opened the season last weekend in East Lansing, falling 6-2 to Michigan State. The Tigers followed up with a 5-4 overtime exhibition win over the USA Under-18 team. It was the Tigers' second line, its sophomore line, that was responsible for both goals with Alex Riche tallying two goals to match his total from last season. Ryan Kuffner, an ECAC All-Rookie team selection a year ago, assisted on both goals. Sophomore Max Veronneau and freshman Derek Topatigh each added one assist. Senior Colton Phinney made 28 saves. The Tigers' penalty kill is performing at a rate of 75 percent (3 for 4), while the power play is 0 for 7.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
???????St. Lawrence is off to a 3-4-1 start as well. They played to a 2-2 draw with Minnesota last weekend and dropped a 5-2 game to Wisconsin. Senior Gavin Bayreuther leads the offense with 10 points on three goals and seven assists. Juniors Joe Sullivan and Mike Marnell both have eight points and sophomore Jacob Pritchard has seven. Though the Saints have played three netminders this season, junior Kyle Hayton has made seven starts and has a .904 save percentage with a 3.36 goals against average. The team's power play has scored just four times on 45 chances (8.9 percent) while it's penalty kill is 49 for 59 (83.1 percent). They average and allow just about the same amount of goals per game 3.38 versus 3.50.
THE PRINCETON/ST. LAWRENCE SERIES
St. Lawrence is unbeaten in the last 12 meetings with the Tigers, with Princeton's last win coming in 2011 in Hobey Baker Rink to open an ECAC first-round series after Princeton had swept the season series from the Saints, who went on to win the final two games of that series. St. Lawrence leads the all-time series 68-21-11
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
???????Clarkson is 3-4-1 overall, having played seven more games beginning action on Oct. 7. Last weekend the team lost 4-3 to Minnesota and 5-4 to Wisconsin at Cheel Arena. Senior Jordan Bourcher is averaging 1.00 points per game and has six goals and two assists. Freshman Devin Brosseau and junior Sam Vigneault both have seven points with one goal and a team-best six assists apiece. Senior James de Haas (DET) adds six points from the blue line. Freshman Jake Kielly has beaten out senior Steve Perry for the starting goaltender spot. Kielly sports a .904 save percentage and a 2.99 GAA, while Perry has played just 22 minutes and allowed three goals on 15 shots. Clarkson's power play rates 17.6 percent (9 for 51), while its penalty kill is at 84.2 percent (48 for 57). Clarkson averages 3.25 goals per game and allow 3.38. gpg.
