Princeton Clinches Third Place In NWPC With Win Over No. 20 St. Francis-Brooklyn

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 12 Princeton Tigers clinched third place in the Northeast Water Polo Conference with an 18-13 victory over the No. 20 St. Francis-Brooklyn Terriers at DeNunzio Pool on Sunday morning.
Sophomore Matt Payne scored six more times and added two assists, finishing the 2016 season with 69 goals and 54 assists. He and Gregory Stoll '00 are the only two players in program history to score at least 60 goals and dish out 50 assists in a season. Junior Jordan Colina had five goals and three assists while junior Vojislav Mitrovic had 17 saves in the win.
Colina's tally with 23 seconds to go in the first quarter would give Princeton a 5-4 lead after eight minutes. Tied at 5-all with 7:22 to go in the half, the Tigers rattled off three of the next four goals and took a 10-7 advantage into the halftime.
After allowing the first goal of the third quarter, the Terriers cut their deficit to two (13-11) as the teams headed into the final frame. Princeton put the game away with a five-goal outburst to begin the fourth and secure its 18th win of the season.
