PRINCETON, N.J. (11/23/16) - Princeton will make just its second trip in program history to Bemidji State this weekend when the Beavers host the Tigers for a pair of non-conference games on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25 & 26. Both games will be at 7 p.m., at the Sanford Center.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton heads to Minnesota with an 0-6-1 record. The Tigers had leads over both Colgate and Cornell last weekend, before falling in the third period. Princeton boats the best penalty kill in the country allowing just two power-play goals in 29 chances for 93.1 percent. Junior Eric Robinson is in the midst of a four-game goal scoring streak as he leads the team in the scoring column with five goals and one assist for six points. Sophomore Alex Riche also has six points on three goals and three assists, while junior David Hallisey has one goal and four assists. Four other skaters have four points. Senior Colton Phinney, a Mike Richter nominee, has an .885 save percentage and a 3.72 GAA.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Bemidji moved up in the national poll to No. 10 this week after a sweep of Northern Michigan last weekend. The Beavers are 11-2-1 overall and 11-0-1 in the WCHA. The teams only losses were a pair of one-goal games at North Dakota. Bemidji has the best scoring defense in the country, allowing just 1.36 goals per game, while they averages 2.93 gpg. The squad has the seventh-best power play in the nation with 15 goals on 63 chances (23.8%) and the fourth best penalty kill, as they've killed off 50 of 55 (90.9%). The Beaver have a veteran squad with the top five scorers being seniors or juniors. Phillip Marinaccio has 13 points on six goals and seven assists, while Gerry Fitzgerald has six goals and six assists. Brendan Harms adds five goals and seven assists. Brett Beauvais leads the defenders in scoring with eight points, while Zach Whitecloud leads the freshmen with six points. Junior Michael Bitzer has a 1.35 GAA and a .943 save percentage as the only goaltender the team has used.
THE SERIES
Princeton and Bemidji have met just twice before, when they played a two-game set in 1999. The Beavers won both by one goal, 3-2 and 1-2 in Minnesota.
