Women's Swimming & Diving Opens 2016-17 Campaign at Miami
November 03, 2016 | Women's Swimming and Diving
The Princeton women's swimming and diving team knows it has a monumental challenge this season in replacing the loaded Class of 2016. It will get an early sense of where it stands Friday, when the Tigers conclude their annual fall training trip with a 1 pm showdown against Miami at the Whitten University Center Pool in Coral Gables, Fla.
Princeton, which has won 12 of 17 Ivy League titles this century, brought in a strong infusion of talent with its 12-member Class of 2020, and it also welcomed former NCAA champion Drew Livingston as its new diving coach. Both will make their Orange and Black debuts against a Hurricane program that posted an early-season win over FIU and has competed in three other meets already this season.
While the Tigers lost numerous Ivy League champions and A-finals qualifiers, they do return a number of strong performers to lead the way early this season. Junior Lindsay Temple returns as the reigning Ivy League champion in the 200 back, while sophomore Isabel Reis placed in the Top 5 of three individual finals during her Ivy League Championships debut. Junior Claire McIlmail, a 2015 Ivy League individual champion, and tri-captain Maddy Veith will be among the leaders in Princeton's revamped sprint/free corps, while Olivia Chan heads a breast group that saw three current sophomores (Lindsey Swartz, Kate Didion, Janet Zhao) reach the 'A' final in the 200 breast last season.
Following Friday's meet, both the Princeton men's and women's teams will return home to prepare for the annual Big Al Open, which will be held Nov. 11-12 at DeNunzio Pool and will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
