December 08, 2016 | Women's Fencing
After performing a rare international feat in the realm of U.S. fencing, Princeton senior Anna Van Brummen claimed Team USA's Athlete of the Month for November, and an online vote will decide the honoree.
Van Brummen, who, last month in China, became the first U.S. women's épée fencer to win World Cup gold since women's epee was added to the Olympic program in 1996. In the race to be Team USA's Athlete of the Month, she was nominated alongside speedskater Heather Bergsma, marathon runner Molly Huddle, Paralympic marathoner Tatyana McFadden, and skier Mikaela Shiffrin.
At Princeton, Van Brummen earned All-America honors in 2015 before taking last season off from competition for the Tigers. She is also a three-time first-team All-Ivy League honoree and an Academic All-Ivy recipient.
