PRINCETON, N.J. (12/8/16) - Travel partners Princeton and No. 7 Quinnipiac will face off in the annual home-and-home series this weekend in ECAC Hockey action. The teams will first meet at Hobey Baker Rink on Friday night at 7 p.m., before a 4 p.m., tilt at TD Bank Sports Center on Saturday.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
The Tigers have won three of their last four games, including a sweep of No. 10 Bemidji on the road and a 6-5 overtime win against Rensselaer and are now 3-7-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the ECAC. This week's ECAC Player of the Week Max Véronneau and last week's ECAC Player of the Week David Hallisey both sit atop the scoring column with 12 points apiece. Hallisey has five goals and seven assists, while Véronneau has four goals, all of which were scored last weekend, and eight assist. Sophomore Ryan Kuffner adds five goals and five assists, while junior Eric Robinson, sophomore defender Josh Teves and this week's ECAC Rookie of the Week Jackson Cressey each contribute eight points apiece. Senior Colton Phinney has started in all but one game and has a 2-7-1 record with an .877 save percentage and a 3.93 GAA. Junior Ben Halford has played in two games and has a .965 save percentage and a 1.48 GAA in just over 81 minutes and earned a win at Bemidji.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Quinnipiac enters the series ranked No. 7 in the latest USCHO.com poll with a 10-5-2 overall record. Like Princeton, the Bobcats split last weekend's series with Union and RPI, falling 5-2 to Union last Saturday. The squad is tied for second in the ECAC standings, along with the Dutchmen, with a 6-2-1 conference mark. The Bobcats' penalty kill ranks seventh nationally, allowing 11 goals on 93 chances (88.2%), while the power play is 21 of 121 (17.4%). Senior Tim Clifton is the team's top goal scorer with 10 tallies. He adds five assists for 15 points. Freshmen defender Brogan Rafferty also has 15 points, with 13 coming by way of assist. Sophomore Craig Martin and junior Landon Smith add 12 points apiece, while sophomore Chase Priskie (WSH) and senior K.J. Tiefenwerth are also in double digits. Junior Chris Truehl has started in net for 13 of the team's 17 games and has an 8-3-2 record with a .917 save percentage and a 2.18 GAA. Freshman Andrew Shortridge is 2-2 in six games with an .880 save percentage and a 2.86 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/QUINNIPIAC SERIES
Quinnipiac has a 14-9-1 advantage in the all-time series since the teams first met in 2005 when the Bobcats joined the league. Quinnipiac has won the last four meetings with Princeton's last win being a 4-3 game in Hamden on Nov. 23, 2013. No single skater has more than one point in the series, while Colton Phinney has a .907 save percentage with 185 saves in the series.
