Chin, Major Win NCAA Regional Fencing Titles
March 12, 2016 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
Senior saber Desirae Major and sophomore foil Taylor Chin won titles at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South fencing regional Saturday at Moravian College, hosted by Lafayette.
The regional titles were the first for each Tiger, as Major's previous best finish was fifth two years ago and Chin took 10th in her first NCAA Regional appearance last season.
Major's finish led a top-three sweep for the Tigers in women's saber, with Allison Lee finishing second and Gracie Stone third.
With the regional finishes, which count for 60 percent of a fencer's qualification to the NCAA Championships (regular-season results are the other 40 percent), Princeton has qualified the maximum 12 fencers to the NCAA finals for the sixth time in seven years. The Tigers will have Isabel Ford and Charlene Liu in women's épée, Ashley Tsue and Chin in women's foil, Major and Stone in women's saber, Jack Hudson and Alex House in men's épée, brothers Thomas and Michael Dudey in men's foil, and Edward Chin and Peter Pak in men's saber. The full field for the championships, which will be held March 24-27 at Brandeis in Waltham, Mass., will be released Tuesday afternoon on NCAA.com.
