Fencers Draw Maximum 12 Bids to NCAA Championships
March 15, 2016 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
Princeton confirmed Tuesday that it will be one of four schools to send the maximum 12 bids to the upcoming NCAA fencing championships, which will take place March 24-27 at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass.
Columbia, Notre Dame and St. John's were the other schools to earn the maximum 12, a status that has proven to be an advantage in past championships. Since the NCAA finals expanded to six weapons with the addition of women's saber in 2000, 37 of 42 teams with the maximum 12 berths posted top-four finishes, the standard to come home with a trophy.
Speaking of trophies, Princeton is the only school to finish top-four and come home with hardware in each of the previous five seasons. The Tigers and Notre Dame are the only teams to send the maximum 12 fencers to six of the last seven championships, including 2016.
Princeton's 12 participants are:
Men's Épée: Alex House (Jr.), Jack Hudson (Sr.)
Men's Foil: Thomas Dudey (So.), Michael Dudey (Jr.)
Men's Saber: Edward Chin (So.), Peter Pak (Jr.)
Women's Épée: Isabel Ford (Sr.), Charlene Liu (Fr.)
Women's Foil: Ashley Tsue (Jr.), Taylor Chin (So.)
Women's Saber: Gracie Stone (Sr.), Desirae Major (Sr.)
A preview of the championships will be posted on GoPrincetonTigers.com the week of the event. A full list of participants can be found here.
