No. 8 Texas Tech Tops Men's Tennis in San Diego Tournament Semis
March 18, 2016 | Men's Tennis
It would have been Princeton's fifth win in a row over an ITA-ranked team and the highest-ranked opponent defeated in three-plus seasons under head coach Billy Pate, but Texas Tech prevented the Princeton men's tennis team from reaching those achievments, getting the first four points to clinch a 4-0 win Friday afternoon in San Diego.
Texas Tech got the first two doubles matches to end and the first three singles matches to finish, with two of those singles wins coming from ITA-ranked Red Raiders No. 22 Felipe Soares and No. 94 Hugo Dojas.
Princeton will face No. 34 San Diego in Saturday's third-place contest at USD at 2 p.m. PT/5 p.m. ET.

Coach Billy Pate on the match: "We lost to a very good Texas Tech team today, but clearly we had plenty of chances. We were in the match down the stretch, though having to win four three-setters against a team the caliber of Tech is a tough assignment. We put ourselves in that hole by playing a poor doubles point and losing four first sets in singles. However, we rallied and kept fighting to give ourselves an opportunity. We'll learn from this match and look foward to bouncing back tomorrow." |
