Women's Tennis Tops No. 46 Rice to Close Spring Trip to Texas
March 19, 2016 | Women's Tennis
Caroline Joyce provided the clincher as the Princeton women's tennis team defeated Rice 4-3 to close the Tigers' three-match spring trip to Texas Saturday.
The win was Princeton's third of the year over an ITA-ranked opponent, alongside the 6-1 win at home earlier this month against No. 43 Georgia State and a 4-0 win over No. 70 Yale at the ECAC Championship.
Princeton won the doubles point with Amanda Muliawan and Dorothy Tang getting the clincher on court one after the teams had split matches on courts two and three.
The Tigers went back and forth with Rice in singles, with the Owls getting wins from their two ITA-ranked players, No. 99 Lindsey Hodge and No. 41 Katherine Ip, on courts one and two and Princeton countering with wins from Katrine Steffensen and Dorothy Tang on courts three and six. Rice tied it at 3-3 with a win from Savannah Durkin on court five, but Joyce rallied from losing the second set for a 6-3 third-set win to clinch the match.
