ITA-Ranked Teams to Meet as Women's Tennis Hosts Penn to Open Ivies
March 22, 2016 | Women's Tennis
Five Ivy League women's tennis teams are ranked on the Mar. 22 ITA list, and two of them will meet Saturday at 1 p.m. to open the Ivy League season.
No. 67 Penn will come to No. 60 Princeton with the match taking place at the Lenz Tennis Center or in Jadwin Gym in the event of inclement weather. No. 40 Columbia, No. 46 Dartmouth and No. 51 Harvard are the other Ivy-ranked teams.
Princeton enters the weekend after winning the last two of its three matches on the spring trip to Texas, the last of those giving the Tigers their third win of the spring over an ITA-ranked opponent when Princeton beat No. 46 Rice 4-3. That helped vault the Tigers back in to the ITA top 75 at No. 60, their first ranking since standing 54th in mid-February. Princeton also had a doubles team land in the ITA's top-80 ranking, with Amanda Muliawan and Katrine Steffensen checking in at No. 77.
Penn, which dropped its first three matches of a four-match trip to Texas, also beat Rice to close its Texas trip and went on to beat St. John's at home last weekend in the Quakers' most recent match. Penn has two wins over teams currently in the ITA's top 75, including No. 61 Old Dominion and No. 54 Rice.
The Tigers hold a seven-match win streak over the Quakers, who last defeated Princeton in 2008.
