March 26, 2016 | Women's Rowing - Open
Third-ranked Brown, the reigning Ivy League champion, retained the Class of 1987 Trophy in the exciting headline race of a full morning on Lake Carnegie. Princeton maintains a 17-12 lead in the all-time series, though the Bears have won each of the last two. The Tigers were within three seconds of the Ivy champs, and only .3 of a second of the reigning NCAA champion Brown.
Brown won each of the top four races, while Ohio State took a win in the B four race. The Bears won the varsity eight in 6:35.4, while Ohio State took second in 6:38.0. That time was just .3 of a second in front of Princeton (6:38.3) in the closest race of the morning on Lake Carnegie.
"It was a tough day for the Tigers," head coach Lori Dauphiny said. "The varsity women's race was well fought. Brown took the lead relatively early and did a nice job holding off the challenges by Ohio State and Princeton. It was an exciting opener to the season."
Princeton will return to Lake Carnegie next weekend for a morning regatta with Columbia.
