Updated: Softball to Visit Rider Wednesday in Final Pre-Ivy Contest
March 28, 2016 | Softball
The Ivy League season will begin Friday at the Class of 1895 Field against Dartmouth, but the Tigers will have one last game before the Big Green visit.
That final pre-Ivy tune-up will come Wednesday when Princeton makes the short trip to Rider for a 4:30 p.m. single game.
Princeton will enter the game coming off a doubleheader sweep of Colgate Saturday at '95 Field in which the Tigers put up 16 runs to beat the Raders 7-4 and 9-6.
Wednesday's game is the second of back-to-back dates against Ivy opponents, as the Broncs hosted Penn for a pair Saturday, with the Quakers winning 5-0 and 12-4. That doubleheader sweep followed one that went Rider's way, as the Broncs took two at Fairleigh Dickinson last Wednesday to snap a six-game skid.
The teams had played all but one year from Princeton's first varsity season of 1982 through 2007, but a six-season hiatus before the series resumed in 2014. Princeton holds a 10-game winning streak in the series with Rider's last win coming in 2004. Last season, the Tigers won a neutral-site game over the Broncs at Liberty before winning 5-4 in Lawrenceville.
