First Ivy Road Weekend Ahead for Women's Tennis
March 29, 2016 | Women's Tennis
The Ivy League opener for the Princeton women's tennis team went the Tigers' way last Saturday, but two more pivotal Ivy matches are ahead this weekend for the two-time defending league champions.
Friday will put 59th-ranked Princeton at Brown before a Saturday trip to Yale, both for 2 p.m. matches. Only half the Ivy has played so far, with Columbia defeating Cornell in addition to Princeton's win over Penn. The New England schools will start their Ivy seasons this weekend.
The Tigers have won three in a row since a loss at No. 35 Texas two weeks ago. Princeton ended that three-match trip to Texas with wins over Houston and then-No. 46 Rice before opening Ivy play last Saturday against a Penn team ranked 67th in the nation when the teams met at the Lenz Tennis Center.
Princeton will look to continue winning streaks against each team. The Tigers have won four in a row over Brown, with the Bears' last win in the series coming in Providence in 2012, and Princeton has won three in a row against Yale since a 2013 home loss, a streak that includes a consolation-match win over the Bulldogs to cap this year's ECAC Championship at Dartmouth.
The trip will be Princeton's only two-match road weekend in Ivy play. The Tigers will head home for three straight on campus against the Ivy's three ITA-ranked Ivy teams aside from Princeton and Penn including No. 37 Columbia (Apr. 15), No. 49 Dartmouth (Apr. 9), and No. 54 Harvard (Apr. 10).
