Dartmouth, Harvard to Visit '95 Field in Softball's Ivy-Opening Weekend
March 31, 2016 | Softball
Ivy League play will begin Friday for the Princeton softball team against none other than the two-time defending Ivy League champions from Dartmouth and continue Saturday against the only other team to win an Ivy North title since the divisional format began in 2007, Harvard.
Friday's doubleheader against Dartmouth is set to start at 2 p.m. at the Class of 1895 Field with Saturday's pair against Harvard set for 12:30 p.m. Admission is free, and the games will be video streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network.
The Big Green (11-9) didn't have a midweek game this week, but the team will enter the weekend after a spring break trip to Northern California on which Dartmouth won 9 of 11 games including an extra-inning win over Stanford.
The Crimson (10-11), which will play at Cornell Friday, had midweek contests against Rhode Island, a 4-2 loss, and at home against Boston College, a 2-1 win, since returning from Southern California for spring break, where the Crimson won 5 of 11 contests.
The Tigers (6-17), who had four one-run losses in a competitive spring trip to California, have gone 3-0 since coming home, sweeping a twinbill at '95 Field against Colgate last Saturday and a single game at Rider Wednesday.
Though the series has bounced Dartmouth's and Harvard's way of late, it hasn't been too long since the Tigers have had some success against the Big Green and the Crimson. Princeton was swept in the four-game trip to New England last year and saw the teams each get two games at '95 Field in 2014. Three seasons ago, Princeton was able to forge a split each time against this weekend's two opponents. Princeton's last clean sweep of Dartmouth and Harvard came in 2008, when Princeton opened with those two teams after returning from the spring trip to California with a 3-17 record before going on an 18-2 run through the league to win the title.
