Softball Heads to Lehigh for Midweek Twinbill Wednesday
April 18, 2016 | Softball
Coming off its first series win over Penn since 2008, the Princeton softball team will look for more success against another Pennsylvania team when it heads to Lehigh for a non-league pair Wednesday at 3 p.m.
As with Penn, Princeton will have to overcome recent history that tips the series the opponent's way. The Mountain Hawks have won the last five games over Princeton since the Tigers' last win in 2011. Lisa Van Ackeren, who had an outstanding career as a pitcher at Lehigh before her graduation in 2009, will be looking for her first win against her alma mater since taking over Princeton's program for the 2013 season.
The Mountain Hawks have appeared on Princeton's schedule annually since 2003, though the teams didn't play in 2009 or 2014 due to rainouts. Princeton last swept a twinbill from Lehigh in 2005.
Lehigh, which has won at least 30 games every year since 2001 and hasn't had a losing record since 1999, is off to another strong year again at 27-10 overall and 8-1 in the Patriot League.
Princeton, after battling through a 3-17 start, has won 11 of 16 since returning from the spring trip to California and seven of its last nine.
The games are Princeton's last non-league contests of the regular season and last games before the Tigers head to New York for a four-game series at Columbia Saturday and Sunday. Princeton leads Columbia, its closest pursuer in the Ivy South, by three games with eight to play.
