#2 Men's Lights Take Two Of Three, But #3 Columbia Claims 1V Showdown
April 02, 2016 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
Columbia won the home race in 5:50.1, while Princeton moved to 2-1 on the season in a time of 5:56.1.
“We got off the line quickly and traded blows with Columbia during the first third of the race, but they took a decisive move through the middle of the piece that we were unable to absorb and counter,” junior Will Van Cleve said. “There are some things we are doing well, and it will be important to build off them in the coming weeks, but we are clearly a long way off from the kind of race execution that will bring us the results we are looking for.”
The Tiger 2V earned an impressive victory in 6:05.2, more than nine seconds faster than its Columbia opponent, while the Princeton 3V won by more than six seconds in 6:07.5.
Princeton will begin a long home stretch next weekend when it hosts Delaware and Dartmouth, and that will be followed by a Platt Cup showdown with No. 1 Cornell.
"Today was definitely a reality check, and we learned the hard way how much we will need improve in the coming weeks," Van Cleve said. "We will take some key lessons from the race but it is important to have a short memory and understand that a loss two days into April is not the end of our season.
"A loss like this injects some urgency, determination and focus into our pursuit of speed, but the season is young and our goals for the rest of the year remain unchanged," Van Cleve added.
