Dartmouth Deals Men's Tennis Its First Ivy Loss
April 09, 2016 | Men's Tennis
No. 38 Dartmouth defended home court with a 4-2 win over the 37th-ranked Princeton men's tennis team Saturday afternoon, keeping the Big Green in contention in the Ivy and handing the Tigers their first loss of the league season.
With Columbia defeating Yale and Harvard defeating Penn, Columbia is now the only Ivy-unbeaten team, at 4-0. Princeton and Penn took their first Ivy losses and Dartmouth remained with one league loss.
Dartmouth began the day with a doubles-point win, taking victories on courts two and three while yielding just three games between them. Princeton then got the first two singles matches to end, with Jimmy Wasserman giving up just a game in his straight-set win on court six and Tom Colautti also getting a two-setter on court two. Dartmouth, however, got the next three matches to wrap up, taking wins on courts one, four and five, clinching the match.

Coach Billy Pate on the match: "After a disappointing doubles point, I thought we rebounded well and put ourselves in a good position. We had a lot of momentum, but Dartmouth did a good job of getting two first-set tiebreakers at No. 3 and No. 5. We battled hard but came up short in a close match. We're going to come back out tomorrow at Harvard with a sense of resolve and get after it. This team has done a great job this spring of rebounding after tough losses and we'll expect the same thing tomorrow. We still control our own destiny in the league, but we are going to need to be at our best each time we step on the court." |
