August 12, 2016 | Women's Tennis
Three players from the Princeton Class of 2020 will join the Princeton women's tennis team, a program that has claimed the last three Ivy League titles and NCAA tournament bids, including a first-round win in 2014.
The trio, including Tiffany Chen, Clare McKee and Gaby Pollner, makes up the 11th-ranked recruiting class in the country, according to TennisRecruiting.net.
Chen, from Naperville Central High School in Naperville, Ill., is the No. 2-ranked player in the state of Illinois, No. 4 in the Great Lakes region and No. 28 in the nation, according to TennisRecruiting.net, which has her as a five-star recruit. Chen was the Illinois state tournament singles champion as a sophomore in 2013 while finishing in the top four in the state in all four years. Chen was a National Merit Finalist, a Presidential Scholar Candidate and an Esmark High School All-American in 2015. During her junior tennis career, she earned the USTA's Bill Talbert Sportsmanship Award and was the G16s Midwest Closed Doubles champion in 2013.
McKee, from Boca Raton High School in Boca Raton, Fla., is a TennisRecruting.net five-star recruit, which lists her as the No. 8 player in Florida, the No. 15 player in the Southeast and the No. 56 player in the nation. McKee won the No. 2 singles flight at the Florida state high school championships in 2014, sharing Palm Beach Post Player of the Year honors and Sun-Sentinel Palm Beach Player of the Year recognition. In 2015, McKee was ranked as Florida's No. 1 singles player and was a national finalist in the USTA's Sweet 16 competition. McKee was named a National High School Tennis Association All-American in 2016.
Pollner, from Boca Prep International School in Boca Raton, Fla., is a TennisRecruiting.net Blue Chip recruit who was ranked No. 1 in Florida and No. 13 in the nation in the fall of 2015. She competed in the qualifying rounds of the Junior Wimbledon and U.S. Open tournaments in 2015 and had an ITF junior world ranking of 129th that year.
"We cannot wait for Tiffany, Clare and Gaby to join our team in September," Princeton head coach Laura Granville said. "They are terrific tennis players with proven junior records who will immediately contribute to our on-court success and will be great teammates."
