Princeton Cross Country Hosts HYP Race Saturday
September 16, 2016 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
The Princeton cross country teams host Harvard and Yale in the annual HYP race on Saturday, Sept. 17. The women's 5k race will start at 10 a.m., the men's 8k will follow at 10:30 a.m. (please note the time changes due to the weather).
The Princeton women are ranked No. 22 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll this week - the top ranked Ivy squad. Harvard and Yale are also ranked, coming in at No. 26 and No. 29 - making this weekend a true battle for early season Ivy League supremacy. The Tigers opened the season last weekend at the Fordham Fiasco, sending their middle distance corps out to compete and test of their competitve spirit against other distance squads. Yale also competed in the race, running 12 competitors, with three in the top 10 to take first place. HYP will be the first meet of the season for Harvard.
The Tiger men traveled to Penn State to test out the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional course. In a 90+ degree day, the team ran as a steady pack as is currently receiving votes in the USTFCCCA national poll. Yale won the Fordam Fisco with all five scorers in the top 10 and ran 14 total runners. Harvard has not yet competed.
