Benjamin Martin Earns Three Weekly Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. (9/19/16) - Freshman Benjamin Martin of the Princeton men's soccer team has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week, the Ivy League co-Rookie of the Week and the GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week presented by Suburban Transit it was announced on Monday, Sept. 19.
Martin led the Tigers in scoring as Princeton swept the week, 2-0. Princeton topped No. 22 ranked and previously undefeated Rider 3-1 on Tuesday night before beating Boston University 2-1 on Friday in a live ESPNU televised contest. Martin scored the first goal on Tuesday night against the Broncs as he pushed the ball past the left foot of his defender and then past the goalkeeper. Prior to the game Rider had only allowed one goal in four games. On Friday, Martin was a factor in both Tiger goals. He net the game winner in the 56th minute when he got a through ball and pushed the ball past the keeper who came out to prevent the shot. Martin set up the first goal which tied the game at 1-1 in the 35th minute. He knocked down a long ball off a restart and put it right in the center of the box for teammate Vikram Pothuri to pop into the goal. Martin leads the Tigers in scoring with five points, averaging 1.25 points per game.
Princeton travels to Drexel for a 7 p.m., game tomorrow night before returning home to take on Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
