PRINCETON, N.J. (9/26/16) - The Princeton men's soccer team travels to Villanova for an afternoon midweek game on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Game time is at 4 p.m.
Princeton is 4-2 overall, having won its last four games after dropping the first two of the season. The Tigers are ranked No. 29 in the NCAA RPI that was released today, the highest ranked Ivy League squad on the list. Most recently the squad defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 3-1 on Saturday. Senior Greg Seifert and freshman Benjamin Martin sit atop the scoring column with seven points apiece. Each has scored three times and assisted on one goal. Senior Vikram Pothuri, junior Harry Heffernan and sophomore Henry Martin all have three points on one goal and one assist each, while junior Daniel Bowkett and senior Mark Romanwoski have three assists apiece. Senior Josh Haberman has played every minute in goal. He sports a .750 save percentage and a 1.17 goals against average, making 21 saves on 28 shots.
Princeton owns a 4-2 record in the all-time series with Villanova. This will be the first meeting for the teams in four years, the last match-up being held in 2012 in Villanova. Princeton took that game 1-0 on a goal by Thomas Sanner '16. Of the six games in the series, five have been shutouts and three have been decided by one goal.
The only common opponent Villanova and Princeton have is Rider. Villanova lost to Rider 2-1 in overtime in the season opener on Aug. 26 while Princeton defeated the Broncs 3-1 on Sept. 13.
Villanova enters the game with a 4-3-1 mark, are ranked No. 22 in the NCAA RPI, and most recently defeated Marquette 2-1 on Saturday. The Wildcats are 1-1 in the league after falling to Butler in overtime on Sept. 17 which snapped a three-game winning streak. Villanova tends to score late with 10 of the teams 12 goals coming in the second half. Lucas Hodges leads the team in points with seven on three goals and one assist. Jacob Anderson has also tallied three goals. Miguel Polley has a team-best four assists and one goal for six points. Padraic McCullaugh adds five points on two goals and one assist and Zach Zandi has four points on one goal and two assists. Will Steiner has played every minute in goal and has a .761 save percentage and a 1.31 GAA making 35 saves on 46 shots. The squad allows an average of 16.8 shots a game with 36 percent making it on frame.
