Senior Katharine Holmes won and rookie Kasia Nixon took third in the Division I women's épée event to highlight a busy January North American Cup event in Columbus, Ohio for current and former Tiger fencers.
Holmes swept through the pool round 6-0 while Nixon went 4-2, and Holmes then swept through her six direct-elimination bouts, defeating Penn State alum Margherita Guzzi Vincenti 13-10 in the final. Nixon won her first four in the bracket Guzzi Vincenti tripped her up in the semifinals 15-11. Senior Anna Van Brummen finished ninth in the event and sophomore Charlene Liu took 40th of 162 fencers. Liu won the junior women's épée event with Nixon placing 19th of 144 fencers.
In Division I women's saber, Eliza Stone '13 took fifth while freshman Maia Chamberlain took eighth and sophomore Sage Palmedo placed 28th of 137. In the junior event, Chamberlain finished 18th of 143.
In Division I men's épée, sophomore Wesley Johnson took 22nd, freshman Wesley Yuan took 29th, senior Alex House was 38th and sophomore Arjuna Subramanian was 167th of 311 fencers. In the junior event, Yuan finished 41st while Johnson tied for 145th and Subramanian took 160th of 226.
In Division I men's foil, Michael Dudey, who competed as a junior last season and is away from Princeton this season, took 35th of 236. In Division I men's saber, sophomore Edward Chin took 33rd of 177 fencers. In Division I women's foil freshmen Angela Li placed 86th and Isabella Chung finished 89th of 166 fencers.
