Payne Selected as NWPC Co-Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Matt Payne was honored as the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Co-Player of the Week, the Collegiate Water Polo Association announced today.
Payne paced Princeton with 14 goals in three games to lead the Tigers to a 3-0 finish at the Harvard Invitational. The junior began the weekend with three goals along with an assist and a steal in the 13-7 over the George Washington. Payne then scored seven goals in a 14-11 victory over Wagner, which is tied for third-most goals in a single game in program history. Payne completed the weekend with a four-goal, two-block effort in a 12-7 victory over No. 18 Bucknell.
For the season, Payne has 48 goals and 28 assists for the Tigers. He's added 33 drawn ejections, 18 steals and 13 blocks as well.
The Tigers will take a week off before getting back into Northeast Water Polo Conference action at MIT (11 a.m.) and No. 14 Harvard (8 p.m.) on Oct. 28.
