Yale Ends Volleyball Home Streak, Maintains Top Spot In Ivy Standings
October 27, 2017 | Women's Volleyball
The Princeton women's volleyball team suffered a tough setback in its drive for a third straight Ivy League title Friday night, as Yale grabbed control of the league race with a 3-0 victory over the Tigers in Dillon Gym. The match ended a 16-match Ivy League home win streak for the Tigers, who will try to start a new one Saturday at 5 pm against Brown.
Yale pulled out a tight first set and used a 10-0 run in the second to grab a 2-0 lead, and the Bulldogs used that momentum to pull away in the third for a 25-22, 25-21, 25-15 win. Yale is now 8-1 in Ivy League play, while Princeton falls to 5-3 overall. The two teams don't meet again, meaning the Tigers need Yale to drop a pair of matches to have a chance at the league crown.
Sophomore Maggie O'Connell led Princeton with 11 kills, while freshman Clare Lenihan came off the bench to add five of her own. Classmate Alexa Underwood tried to provide a late spark with four kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Four different Tigers had at least five digs, while middle Caroline Sklaver added four blocks.
